WHAT IS DIALECTICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skills-based therapeutic modality created to help individuals better understand and regulate their emotions, engage in healthy relationships, and embrace a life worth living.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy is comprised of four main tenets: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance.
IS DBT right for me?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a beneficial therapeutic modality for individuals who struggle with:
feeling overwhelmed by strong emotions
difficulty being present/grounded
nervous system sensitivity
unstable or high-conflict relationships
difficulty with acceptance and change
black and white thinking about self and others
boundary setting and self-advocacy
impulsive behavior
DBT skills are designed to increase client self-awareness and self-efficacy across multiple areas of life, with an emphasis on emotions and relationships. DBT skills promote mindful living, emotional regulation, relationship stability, flexible thinking, and effective communication.
